In the short year since its creation the brand Noir has made quite the impact on the quaint country of The Gambia. The clothing line, turned boutique, was cultivated by Gambian born Ndeyfatou Ceesay. Being the daughter of a noted fashion designer in their native, Ceesay reveals that her mother was instrumental in teaching her everything she knows about the art of design.
Five years ago she decided to take designing into her own hands. After a few attempts to get thing off the ground Ndeyfatou decided to look into advanced options in gaining the experience and inspiration to help develop herself further. During that time she played roles in both the London and New York City fashion scene as a freelance personal stylist, a textile apprentice, a fashion intern at InStyle Magazine, and a stylist for EMERG! FASHION NYC at New York Fashion Week F/W 2013.
In January 2014 Ceesay decided to return home after having sharpened and perfected her craft. She had found a signature ascetic which featured clean lines for both men and women, delivered the right amount of simplicity, yet always punched up with diverse African prints, embroidery, beading, and her most exhilarating “Bai Fall” (patchwork) technique.
Upon dressing a few fashionistas and entertainers in both London and Banjul as well as serving as the headline collection at Fashion Weekend Gambia 2014 the buzz about the new Gambian brand has been on the lips of some of the most stylish and trendy individuals both at home and in the diaspora. After an immense amount of sales, and the continued support from her family and friends, the designer is delighted to currently call herself a new found boutique owner, in opening her first brick and mortar in Banjul on November 25, 2014.
