Even though they were reluctant to reveal the amount of money given to them by His Excellency the President of the Republic of The Gambia Sheikh Profesor, Dr, Alhagie Yaya AJJ Jammeh during their spectacular performance in Banjul on Saturday 21st February as part of events marking the Gambia’s Golden Jubilee, the Humanity Starz assured that the gesture will go a long way in helping them achieve their desired goals.
In a press conference held at the Red Cross office in Westfield on Wednesday 25th February, the Manager of the Humanity Starz band, Mbye Bittaye, expressed delight with the kind gesture of His Excellence, the president for recognizing their work . He announced the 2 new singles they released “Kenen”, sang by the female vocalist of the group Fatoumatta Sandeng and “Maak Yow”, done by Alieu A. Joof (Badara).
According to Mbye, both songs were recorded at Papis Konateh’s Studio in Senegal and all the instruments were played by the dynamic members of the band. The manger describes his band as pace setters, saying they always do things that are fresh and original. He said the recording process of the songs were fun due to the unity among the band members. Elaborating on why they formalize the release of the songs, he said music is a noble profession and that it should be pictured well. He thanked the president for what he described as a ‘landmark development’ for them and disclosed that their new album will be released on or before December of 2015.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary General of the Gambian Music Union, Mr. Kalilu Banja, welcomed the development and noted that this is clear manifestation of the band’s commitment to national service. The SG assured of the union’s support whenever the need arises.
The Director of the Creative and Performing Arts in the National Center for Arts and Culture, Mr. Sheikh Omar Jallow (SOJ), said the singles came at a right time when they are gearing up for their new album. He strongly advised them to make hay while the sun shines. SOJ described the band as a contemporary one that has all it takes to represent the country in any given platform. He also assured the band of his office’s support anytime they knock on his doors.
Fatoumatta Sandeng gave the vote of thanks. She tongue lashed everyone who contributed to their success and thank the attendees for coming. The session was well attended by members and fans of the band and a cross section of journalists.
