A famous senegalese comedian Oumar Ba who was well known by his stage name ''Baye Peul'' dies at the age of 80.
According to reports reaching Gambia Talents Promotion, Baye Peul passed on at the main Hospital in Dakar on Friday the 6th of October 2017, as a result of a long term illness he had struggled with over the years. He was a prominent member of the famous theatre group called ''Daaray Kocc'', in which he acted along side the late Makhouredia Gueye, also a famous actor. His enormous contribution and participation in Drama and the exceptional talent he possessed was one that is appreacited by the people of The Gambia and Senegal.
So many comedians as well as actors, including Oumar Ba alias ''Baye Ely'', paid their hommage and tribute to the deceased. According to teary Baye Ely, Baye Peul was like a comrade in the army. ''We have made an army together'', he recalled.
According to a renown Gambian comedian Modou Musa Ceesay, who expressed his condolences in a facebook post, the entertainment world has loss a great legend, who now joins his friend and partner MAHOROJA GEUYE after a brief illness. The two legends, according to Modou Musa, built the foundation of Senegambian comedy, and people were eager to watch them on Tuesday nights on RTS while they entertained for decades. May Allah subhanahu wa taalah grant him the highest of janatul firdaws, he concluded.
A brief Bio
Baye Peul joined the Senegalese Army in his early 20s, although he had never been through formal education. As a young soldier, he took part in series of operations including a military mission in Algeria. He is also said to have performed pilgrimage to Mecca for about 7 times since 1985.
The comedian was publicly discovered as far back the early 80s and had eversince played an active part in performing arts in Senegal. He however resigned about a decade ago after the death of his former theatre companion, Makhouredia Gueye.
