The first Miss Gambia UK beauty pageant was held at the Stratford Town Hall in East London last week Saturday April 19th April 2014. The highly elegant event was organized by Adama Manneh Sey and the Miss Gambia UK Foundation as a fund raiser to support noble projects in The Gambia.
The Miss Gambia UK Foundation was established to promote the beauty and The Gambia’s arts and culture. The Foundation consists of fashion designers, accountants, engineers, graphic designers, media experts and event planners with years of experience in their various fields of expertise, who share a common passion of promoting the Gambian beauty and culture in the diaspora.
Six beautiful Gambian Queens contested in the pageant giving it their best (Winner Arminda Gomez from London, 1st runner up Betty Njie from Bham, 2nd runner up Jainaba Chune from Bham and other contestants Ndey Anna Sumbundu from Coventry, Oumie Taal from Bham and Fatou Cham from Reading. Out of the six, Miss Jainaba Chune from Birmingham emerged as The 2nd Runner up, Miss Betty Njie from Coventry was the 1st Runner and Miss Aminda Gomez emerged as the winner and Miss Gambia UK 2014.
In an interview with Mrs Adama Manneh Sey - Founder & Organizer of the pageant, she expressed her sincere appreciation to everyone who contributed towards the success of the event. When asked about how she feels now that the pageant is over with. Mrs Sey said “It's a big relief that we pulled it off despite the adversities and obstacles during the journey” According to her, the winner will have the opportunity to showcase her talent, intelligence, grace, charm, poise and beauty. She is also expected to promote the authentic culture of The Gambia and serve as the Country’s brand ambassador internationally.

The pageant was attended by a large number of Gambians and friends of The Gambia based in UK and other Scandinavian countries and was sponsored by local Gambian businesses in London. Nabou Faal and Ida Cham hosted the event while entertainment was provided by SeneGambian DJs and musicians such as Sura Susso, Mame Balla and Mohawk a.k.a The Rap Khalifa.
Mr. George Gomez- the chairman of the committee regulating the film, fashion and beauty pageant events in the Gambia who has over 30 years of experience in the fashion industry was the Chief Judge for the pageant.
